EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Applied Quantum Technologies

The Centre for Doctoral Training in Applied Quantum Technologies addresses the national need to train cohorts of future quantum scientists and engineers for this emerging industry.

The training program is a partnership between the University of Strathclyde, the University of Glasgow and Heriot-Watt University, in collaboration with more than 30 UK industry partners. The Centre will support 5 cohorts of students starting in 2025.

Fully funded PhD positions are available across three themes; Quantum Measurement and Sensing, Quantum Computing and Simulation and Quantum Communications and Networks.

In addition, the CDT will offer advanced training in quantum technology, from technical underpinnings to applications, along with skills development and engagement activities with leading industries and specialists.

Industry Engagement

The CDT is currently supported by more than 30 industry partners, covering the quantum technology supply chain, industrial research, systems engineering, manufacturers and service providers, quantum technology start-ups, the space sector and government labs.

Our industry partners are integral to the CDT’s collaborative framework and their engagement helps to ensure that our students gain the skills to translate fundamental quantum physics into practical solutions for industry, research and society.
